We absolutely love the glass as it seems to be less reactive than any type of plastic. We wonder if the glass helps prevent some oxidation... of course we have no proof. Glad you're Oster is going strong!

Re: BEST BLENDERS COMPARE & REVIEW | Blendtec, Vitamix, Oster

Thank you for your information. We very much appreciate it. The oxidation levels are interesting. We actually added an 'Oxidation' section to our article, above. It addresses some of the issues you brought up.

As for our blending experiments, we've actually put our blender through a host of "punishing" experiements. These days we blend large amounts of dandelions, cilantro and other very fibrous materials. We Add ice and frozen fruit which really puts our Oster through its paces.

We will say that there is an occasional slight drip from the bottom of the blender via the stem and blade assembly.

However, because we are so extremely hard on our blender (large amounts, tough, fibrous plant material, large frozen chunks) that we are actually amazed out blender has lasted as long as it has. We are immensely satisfied thus far.

We were unable to find a tamper for the Blendtec. However, Blendtec claims that no tamper is necessary with the variable speed settings, and commenters have noted that they no longer need a tamper with the Blendtec. As you say, the 4 inch blade and larger canister seems to be quite effective and have received high praise. The 3 inch blade is also very popular, however.

Please let us know if you find a readily available tamper assembly for the Blendtec.

Re: BEST BLENDERS COMPARE & REVIEW | Blendtec, Vitamix, Oster

@Pete This likely also explains why the Blendtec also uses the carbonate-type container. These performance blenders hit much higher rpms than an Oster for example. If something were to be dropped into a glass container at such high speed, serious injury could result from flying shards of glass.

Re: BEST BLENDERS COMPARE & REVIEW | Blendtec, Vitamix, Oster

Karen's Message:

Response to Karen:

Thanks, Karen. We also LOVE our Oster. We grind down frozen chunks of hard fruit like there's no tomorrow. : ) It's a workhorse. So far, it's quite durable, and we love the glass as well. That's one of the reasons why we love Oster.

Re: BEST BLENDERS COMPARE & REVIEW | Blendtec, Vitamix, Oster

thanks for this! just started doing green smoothies and can't afford a higher end blender. I have had my oster for 5 years and am happy it does the trick for now. Prefer glass over polycarbonate too.

Re: RECIPE: RAW AND DELICIOUS ESSENE BREAD

Comment to BestRawOrganic:

"That bread looks amazing. I haven't had any luck trying to make bread.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I put it in my dehydrator but it
still just goes doughy and ferments before it's done. I've tried
spreading it thin and it's still not the best. How did you get yours so
high? Will you please send me the recipe? Thanks, J."

BestRawOrganic Reply:

"Dear J,

Thank you, and the recipe is above.

If sprouts grow a bit too large, they may have too much moisture when ground. The dough should be moist but not wet. The bread should consistently rise on its own whether in the toaster oven or the dehydator. There's naturally a bit of fermentation which causes the rising, but there usually isn't any sour taste whatsoever.

We allow the natural yeast in air and in the grain itself as a natural leavening. So far, the bread always does gently rise (not too much) and come out like a thick, rich and slightly chewy loaf, like a perfect brownie consistency.

Another idea may be to add some finely ground unsprouted grain (raw flour) to the sprout mix and see if that helps with the texture and drying.

We also very much enjoy adding the carrot which lends a natural sweetness and helps the texture of the bread."

Re: HOW TO GET DIABETES IN SIX HOURS

Thank you for your comment. We added more information above regarding Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to our article. Some doctors state that Type 1 diabetes can never be cured. We used to go through an Oster blender every year (motor burns out when blending frozen fruit every day) so we bought a Vitamix about 4 years ago. It still works like new. Regarding the Blendtec vs. Vitamix videos- There is another website that compares the oxidation and the 4 inch blade Blendtec definitely oxidized the food less than the 3 inch blade Blendtec or the Vitamix. Since you are doing a review, why not make it thorough instead of saying that you don't know but you don't think it really makes a difference? Also, I wish you had tested something more substantial than a couple of chopped up apples. Why not make a real smoothy since you are doing a review? Some of the users say that not having a tamper for the Blendtec (3 inch blade) is a drawback since it won't draw all of the ingredients down to the blade (tampers for the blendtec are available at third party websites). Users of the 4 inch blade blendtec say this is not an issue.

Re: BEST RAW FOOD Recipes for Children

Great Article Cici!!!
Perhaps the blender companies use the polycarbonate because of the weight. And, when they (Blendtec, for example) keep shredding all those electronics, they need that tough plastic. : )

But, wouldn't it be nice if they had the glass option? There's something wonderful and chemically inactive about glass. We do love the Oster for the glass canister - no stains, and it's shiny and flawless for each blending. : )

Re: BEST BLENDERS COMPARE & REVIEW | Blendtec, Vitamix, Oster

Great review Cici! Personally, I ignore the labels and just go for the speed that suits what I'm blending. Generally, the fastest speeds are the easiest and quickest. But sometimes, their too fast. She actually once gave a speech on what she could Not live without, and gave it about the VitaMix. We use it everyday, sometimes 3 or 4 times per day. We think it is absolutely fabulous!
We did have the bearings go bad once, and called the company. They not only sent us the new blade assembly (which houses the bearings), but the tool to use to replace the assembly, and did not ask for the bad part back, showing they just believed us without question. We appreciated the trust they showed. They also sent the replacement part that same day, or the next day. We'd definitely give them 5 out of 5 stars for equipment and service both!

Re: Handy Emergency Supplies – Basic Essentials

From YokosoNews

"A few tricks to prepare against natural disaster: Don't panic when something "beyond expectation" happens, and get ready to improvise.

I've learned the lesson from 1995 Hanshin Earthquakes. You cannot avoid "unexpected" disaster or accident no matter how much you prepared. When something "beyond expectation" happans, first, accept it, second, improvise it to minimize the damage.

Ask for help or offer a help within what you can do. DON'T DO anything that you don't know how."

Re: Yam and Kelp Noodles – Are They Really Raw and Healthy?

More About Kelp Noodles, Shirataki Noodles, Starch, Yam Noodles and Bean Thread Noodles

Kelp Noodles, Yam Noodles, Bean Thread noodles are made in rather odd ways.

Kelp Noodles are popular as a "raw type food" (even though they aren't REALLY raw at all : ) so let's talk about them.

Kelp
Noodles are really a reconstituted gelled substance derived from sodium
alginate, which is the sodium salt of alginic acid.

Sodium
Alginate is a highly processed powder derived from kelp. High heat is
used in the processing. Sodium Alginate is used as a thickener for
paints and such things as fabric dyes.

Alginate is often also bleached and treated with chemicals and manufacturing processes.

To form into noodles, sodium or calcium carbonate is added to reconstituted alginate to solidify.

One could say that Kelp Noodles are one of the most highly, chemically processed foods in the "health" diet.

That
said, they are a low calorie "filler" food when one is craving a pasta
substitute. But they are not truly raw, nor do they provide any
mentionable nutrition.

: )

As for Yam and other types of
noodles, these are derived from the starch in these vegetables. They can
have zero calories - amazing, isn't it?

None of these noodles can be considered harmful, other than to a wallet that's on the thin side.

Luv!
Ellienne
PS:
I do love to add starch noodles to food if I have them. They absorb
sauces very well and can add a delightful texture. Great for dieting and
losing weight.

But I really think Kelp Noodle manufacturers
should rethink using the term, "raw." Although just about anything
processed can be legally called raw, they are oftentimes not raw at all.
Thus, a misnomer.

: )

Re: The PERFECT BLENDER SMOOTHIE DRINK RECIPE

Dear K-love,

Here are some tricks on how to make a perfect drink:

1. What creates the beautiful green color is SPINACH and the dark, dark part of the Romaine. Spinach in particular really imparts a deep green color. If we can, we use organic spinach grown in soil which we have found to be particularly rich, meaty, mild and dark dark green. Use a full handful. : )

2. Kale is very strong and not very good tasting. Therefore, just a little - perhaps only one leaf to start. Kale does not usually create a rich, green color.

3. Apples: The ripeness and sweetness of the fruit is crucial - for apples, we use sweet fujis, then galas or even sweet delicious. Organic sweet fuji apples are the best for taste. If the apples are small, use 1 and a half.

4. Bananas: Add a half or whole ripe banana that is just slightly spotty. That's the perfect time without the too ripe "overtaste." But some people like more brown spots for extra sweetness. Bananas perform miracles!

5. If there is a Trader Joes near by, try the frozen mangoes. The richer, deeper yellow color, the better. Add 1/2 cup of frozen mangoes. Yummy and healthy, too!

6. Brassica greens like kale and collards have a strong, pungent and sometimes bitter taste. They do not do well in a blender drink without plenty of fruit.

7. You can sweeten with extra banana or medjool DATES. One medjool date does wonders. We recommend avoiding splenda due to health issues that we have heard from experts. With our new updated recipe, you should have a delicious drink without needing added sweetness. : )

~~~
We revised the recipe for better taste. Our original recipe had been made with ripe organic fruit and mild greens. But, not everyone will be able to or can find such organic ingredients.
Please comment if you have ANY more questions or issues.
